Introduction to Illdy

Illdy is a free and paid business / agency theme developed by ColorLib and has a decent blog. It is a decent choice because it looks great out the box but isn’t the most newbie friendly. The best feature about Illdy is that it looks great with the standard Block WordPress customization. If you know you way around WordPress Illdy’s free theme is a good start.

TL:DR – Great for a simple 2 or 3 page website. Works well with Block editor. Requires coding and previous WordPress knowledge to really customize and get it looking unique.

What we liked about Illdy (free)

We really liked Illdy for it’s look-and-feel. It has a lot of the design features found in other premium business WordPress themes like the number counter, homepage video slider and fluid mobile responsiveness.

This isn’t as multiuse as other WordPress themes but if you can edit the HTML the built in sections provide a great starting point.

The blog is decent and they include the ability to disable the sidebar though the page themes. In the customizer you have the ability to change the logo, colors, and move sections around or disable them completely.

What we didn’t like about Illdy (free)

In order to edit some of the section on the demo layout you need to either install jetpack, or be able to edit the PHP code files located inside the “wp-theme” folder. A WordPress developer maybe comfortable with doing this but most of the best customization features are not easily available on the front-end. A work around is using a “File Manager” plugin to access the section php files.

Most users who use free themes would be ones without much web development knowledge and would want the major customization features easily discoverable and easily editable. This theme may not be the first choice for someone without a lot of technical experience.

Great design but maybe a little tough to edit for a beginner. No multiple menu styles.

Hipster Conclusions

Illdy is an easy to setup but a little difficult to customize. We feel it is perfect for a basic business website presence or small agency. Could be used as a simple lander before building out a solid blog as well but definitely more suited as an informational page for your business.

The default demo looks great and could be a solid start for a professional business site.

If you are okay to tinker a bit, it’s definitely worth a try or hide all the sections you don’t need and just build with the default Block builder.
